The ARATA Board is responsible to members for the overall performance of the organisation, providing leadership, strategic direction and overseeing the day-to-day operations conducted by the ARATA Office.
At this year’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) which will be held via Zoom connection on Tuesday, 17 November 2020 at 6.00pm AEDT, three current directors will step down from the ARATA Board. In accordance with the Constitution, members have the opportunity to consider nominating for a position on the ARATA Board and current ARATA Board members whose term is expiring may be eligible to renominate.
Nominations for the ARATA Board are being sought from all current Individual members. A diverse range of backgrounds, skills and ideas is necessary to have a high functioning Board, as is a passion for contributing to the future success of ARATA and the community which it serves. Board positions are held for a two-year term commencing at the AGM in November 2020 and concluding at the AGM in 2022.
What is the commitment? Each ARATA Board member is required to attend all Board meetings and participate constructively in discussion and decision making. ARATA Board members typically meet for approx 1.5 hours six times per year via teleconference. Additionally, ARATA Board members may be expected to attend a two-day strategic planning which is held face-to-face and also attend the AGM. In between meetings, they are expected to promptly respond to matters which arise so that the work of ARATA can progress. While these positions are voluntary, all reasonable expenses are reimbursed.
Roles and responsibilities: Directors of the ARATA Board will play a key role in a number of disciplines, including finance; governance; marketing and communication; membership and member benefits; education; research; policy / professional advancement; and government, industry and stakeholder management. Directors need to draw upon and advance existing skills and experience in financial acumen, strategic planning, business development, relationship building, verbal and written communication, policy development, managing risk and more. This is a rewarding and esteemed role.
